Women have been the heart of flamenco and of life itself, the protagonists of its lyrics and its everyday pulse, even though they could not always take the place their talent deserved.

ELLAS is inspired by the figure of women in flamenco, where memory becomes voice, body and a living presence that carries on.

THE CRITICS

What the specialist press has said…

«At the Teatro Isabel La Católica, Eva Esquivel embodied all the women of the world in a solid, well-rounded show, woven with threads of gold and embroidered with flamenco flair. Eva could not help but dance alegrías. The feminine dance par excellence.

«She was flamenca through and through, proving she is the artistic daughter of the great Mariquilla, who was there in the stalls cheering her on, because she deserved it. Calm, fiery, energetic, playful and serious all at once in the escobilla, seasoned in her footwork and precise in her arm work

The essence

Female essence, identity and truth. A body that fills the space with determination and sensitivity, without needing to raise its voice.

A flamenco that asserts itself from what it is, that engages with tradition without staying stuck in it and looks at the present with awareness and freedom

An honest, deep and living stage language that knows where it comes from in order to say clearly who it is today.

Guitarra, mantón y sombrero, símbolos de ELLAS

The roots

The shawl, the hat and the guitar speak of what remains when the body rises to dance — that is ELLAS

On stage, the voice opens space, the body takes the floor and memory awakens as living matter. Everything happens in the present, from a truth that is neither embellished nor explained, only inhabited.

Ellas looks to the origin in order to inhabit the present. A flamenco that listens, waits and is built from its essence.

Bodies and gazes that hold the stage

Eva Esquivel is the creative core and the pulse that shapes ELLAS. As director, she builds a stage space where flamenco shows itself with honesty and bareness, far from artifice, letting emotion emerge from the roots, from silence and from the truth of each gesture.

Her direction comes from deep listening. Every decision is born from respect for time, the body and the music, carefully shaping each pause, each transition and each meeting between song, guitar and movement. Eva sees the stage as a living territory, where the traditional and the contemporary engage without overpowering each other, holding each other up.

In ELLAS, direction doesn't dictate, it accompanies; it doesn't impose, it reveals. A way of guiding from the essential, leaving room for shared emotion and the female identity that runs through the whole work.

Dancer

Eva inhabits the stage with a deep, conscious presence. Her dance is born from experience, from the skin and from a female identity built on truth and memory. She doesn't impose herself: she asserts herself, filling the space with strength, sensitivity and resolve.

In ELLAS, her body becomes language and a tribute to women in flamenco. A woman who creates, passes on and takes centre stage.

Her dance engages with the present without giving up its origins, turning tradition into a living, current and intensely feminine act.

Luis Mariano

Guitar

In ELLAS, the guitar doesn't just accompany: it listens, converses and guides — it is the pulse that holds everything together. His playing accompanies with sensitivity, creating a soundscape that breathes with the dance and the song. Far from the ornamental, his guitar builds atmospheres that let the stage unfold with depth and truth.

His playing, marked by its clarity, power and special sweetness, makes him exceptionally creative for dance.

His work as a composer and
performer is especially noteworthy. His curiosity, creativity and broad musical range go far beyond any label.
